London to Beirut - and then some…..

I’ve just got a new plan!
All Shakti’s family have been scoffing at the idea of us cycling through Lebanon. Apparently the drivers are so ridiculously haphazard over there, they’d just laugh at the sight of us on our bikes before running us over.

Anyway, it seems it might be feasible afterall; I have just seen an article in the Times about a group of women who cycle for peace in the Middle East. Its organised by a British Nobel Peace Prize nominee, called Detta Regan, and her group is called Follow the Women. They have already completed two rides, starting in Beirut and going through Syria, Jordan and ending in Palestine and they have another one planned for April 2007.

So here is the plan - we have just got to join these women. What motivation to actually get ourselves across Europe. Can you imagine finishing this epic by joining a huge group of women cycling across the Middle East? Fabalous Darling!

I just happened upon this by accident. All I can say of Ms Regan is that I have known her since 1984 and have worked with her as a Youth Worker for about 10 years.

You will not meet a more motivated more determined and above all more successful champion for women’s rights, youth rights and above all human rights anywhere.

The journey if you do join her and the other Follow The Women members will be an inspiration to you all.

I would say that you should do it.

Ken
