It was a tough psychological run this morning. I took the new route around both the Chiswick and Hammersmith Bridges and I’ve displayed the MotionBased viewport below. It turns out to be an almost perfect 10k route, but its hard on the mind. I’m dreading starting my marathon training when I’ll have to face considerably longer runs each weekend.
It’s on a beautiful stretch of the river but I kept wanting to quit because I couldn’t maintain any hope that the run would eventually finish. It felt like I could see about a 10 mile stretch of the Thames and yet Hammersmith Bridge just wouldn’t come into view. Luckily after I’d passed Barnes Bridge there was really no option but to continue – unless I fancied a swim. After crossing Hammersmith Bridge things got a bit easier as it was running almost entirely under dense-ish tree cover, much appreciated in this heat. Despite not being able to see the sky for almost half the run, the Garmin Forerunner 305 maintained a GPS signal throughout.
I spotted a little rubber duck by the Chiswick Eyot, he had a very muddy face and generally looked like he’d had a hard time of things. I wonder if he’s still hanging in there after last weeks rubber duck race on the Thames that started by Battersea. Has anyone spotted a duck in farther out along the Thames – let me know – he may be slow duck, but he could also be a little champion.
