A rather odd couple quit everything to travel the world on bikes....(update Nov 2005) My training probably started about 5 years ago when I started losing weight - 7.5 stones lost to date, and it picked up 3 years ago when I started commuting to work by bike and have since covered 8000 miles through London streets. Cycling has certainly improved my fitness and Shakti has started to lose weight too since she started cycling to work as well. As with everything though, the body soon learns to cope with whatever you throw at it, be it exercise or calorie reduction and you always hit a plateau. I manage this by swapping and changing, driving harder and causing my body to learn how to cope all over again. My latest technique is to overload my body with exercise while controlling the calorie intake scientifically. I watched "Jack Osborne - Adrenalin Junkie" last month. He was a complete lazy, fat, druggie slob who completely turned his life around by the help of some fairly hard core trainers who took him Thai boxing and rock climbing for a minimum of 4 hours a day. This provided all the motivation I recquired and the new goal was to gradually increase my daily exercise level to between 3 and 4 hours. I was already cycling for around 90 mins a day but I added 30 mins a day of running and am gradually adding kickboxing and Kung fu classes - I do 4 hours of martial arts training a week at the moment. My aim since starting to lose weight has always been to exploit my body to its full potential. Prior to that I restricted myself to mental or intellectual goals and just let the body go. I can really say that I am enjoying my life so much more now that I don't need to let my body hold me back. I don't have a specific weight goal in mind, in fact I have always been a little afraid to lose too much - I want to maintain my strength (as Shakti likes to remind me though - I really don't need to worry about wasting away just yet). I would say my weight and fitness goal would to become a "solid little bullet". I hope that you too wish to achieve a lasting sense of well-being, health and vitality and that you value physical fitness more than the actual reading on your bathroom scales. If you find motivation in these pages, do please let me know of your progress. Fat guys and gals can make tremendous progress and you can give yourself a satisfying pat on the back each year as you tick off the previous years goals and eagerly look forward to the plans and challenges ahead. Fitness and Health Goals (update Nov 2005)It is coming towards the end of 2005 as I write this. I've had a great year health wise and certainly can't remember ever feeling this full of energy and confidence and I have certainly never been so active. Having said that i am still a fatty, officially (ie according to charts) I am probably still obese! Cor blimey you could get depressed just to think about it - fancy having lost 8 stone and still being obese! Despite this I am fit, and what's more I am raring to go - bring it on!! I though I would list my current goals as they stand at the end of 2005 - remember, don't ever let your weight hold you back from living and achieving your dreams.
